History of W. M. Crysler Co.
 W.
M. Crysler bought the John Deere dealership in Caruthersville, Mo. from J.
W. Tipton in
1935.
Mr. Crysler moved the dealership to Hayti, Mo. in
1943 to a more central location to better serve the surrounding
communities. In 1945 a new building was constructed at what is now
the present site of the W. M. Crysler Co.
In
1942 Mr. Crysler suffered from a heart attack, and somewhat concerned for
the future of the business, he sold 1/3 interest to G.
A. Gatewood. At that time Mr. Gatewood was working for John Deere
Co. as a "field rep". Mr. Gatewood helped manage and
operate the W. M. Crysler Co. for several years. Mr. Crysler's
health improved and in 1947 he bought back Mr. Gatewood's 1/3
interest. Interestingly enough, Mr. Gatewood was able to buy another
John Deere dealership located in Campbell, Mo. In 1949 W. M. Crysler
Jr. returned from the service and college and began working in the
dealership.
In
1952 the W. M. Crysler Co. bought out Peacock Implement Company a John Deere
dealership in Ridgely, Tn. The family operated the Ridgely dealership
until 1965 when it was sold to a local group of farmers.
At
this time in 1965 W. M. Crysler Co. built a facility and operated a dealership
in Portageville, Mo. to better service the farmers in the Missouri Bootheel
Region. This business is still owned.
The
W. M. Crysler Co., in 1993, bought New Madrid Tractor Co., a dealership north of
Portageville joining the same trade area from Alice Aufdenberg. W. M.
Crysler Jr., along with his two sons, Chris and Greg, manage the three
locations.
